Chen Wen discovered her passion for mental health when she joined the Malaysian Mental Health Association (MMHA) as a rehabilitation facilitator. Her primary duties were to plan, organize and execute group activities for rehabilitation individuals who had been diagnosed with schizophrenia, bipolar and depressive disorder. She had to guide them on their daily living, social, and communication skills to prepare them to take up more responsibilities to lead an independent adult life. Her passion grew further as she invested more time in her job and that led to her decision to embark on the journey of becoming a clinical psychologist.
During her internship as a trainee clinical psychologist, Chen Wen worked in a few centers including the Centre for Psychological and Counselling Services (CPCS) at HELP University and Serene Psychological Services.
Chen Wen works primarily with adults who suffered from mood, anxiety, and personality disorders. She has also had experience working with children and adolescents who struggled with emotional and behavioral issues.
Chen Wen’s primary therapeutic approach is Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT). She seeks to understand how the long-standing beliefs that individuals hold play a role in affecting their thought process and influences their emotions and behavior in return. She also incorporates other approaches such as Gestalt Therapy to work with individuals in overcoming their unfinished business with a targeted individual, and also Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) in her work to explore the personal values of individuals and move them towards their goal of living out a meaningful and fulfilling life.
Chen Wen believes that courage is a powerful tool that guides individuals in navigating through the obstacles and hardships that they face in life. Therefore she always empowers her clients to embrace their flaws and imperfections and courageously take on the course of change to evolve to become a better version of themselves.
